Mineral Oil- The Long Short

I can go into some long spiel about mineral oil and  how it's  bad for your skin and hair, but here's the real long and short of it:

*A mineral oil is any of various colorless, odorless, light mixtures of alkanes, distillates of petroleum. Other
popular names include liquid paraffin, liquid petroleum, petrolatum.

**Mineral oils are NOT absorbed into the skin, because it's molecules are too large.

*Mineral oil is widely used in commercial beauty and skin care products, as well as baby and hair care
 products.

* The  ultra-refined cosmetic grade mineral oil has been linked to carcinogens and is  non -comedogenic ( pore clogging)

*Mineral oil draws moisture AWAY from your body and towards itself, hence the need for reapplication after 'great  moisturizing results."

Many people like to avoid  products containing  mineral oil if it is listed as less than the fourth or fifth ingredient, as label rank is proportional to the amount of that ingredient in the product. So if a product lists mineral oil as the first ingredient, then that product contains MOSTLY  mineral oil.

Some ladies feel that mineral oils clog the pores and block products from being absorbed into the hair shaft, scalp, and skin, while others believe mineral oil allows the other good ingredients to 'sit in their place ' to actually BE absorbed.

If you are washing your hair at least 1 time per week, then you are maintaining a healthy, cleaner scalp in general. If you wash every 3 weeks or more, then dirt and other particles, along with mineral oil, could be clogging your pores.

Some ladies shampoo only 1x a month have waist length hair!

Here's a really great blog post on mineral oil as well.

This post is informational...you decide! Smiley
