Quick Aveeno Nourish + Moisture

I went to Walgreens last night and decided to purchase the Aveeno Nourish + Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner since it works so well for my 8 month and because the Leave in is just that great. I must also mention that last night was the end of a buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. I also purchased 2 of the Nuetrogena triple moisture silk leave ins just a few days before and blogged about m &s with it last night.

I decided against prepooing with coconut oil since my hair was in decent condition the night before. This has never been a reason not to prepoo, but I said 'What the heck? This stuff was so moiturizing in my son's hair, why would need to prepoo???'

so I hopped in the shower and shampooed and conditioned. The shampoo was a nice creamy lather and would be a nice detangler.I shampooed twice with it, only working on my roots as you're supposed to do when shampooing.  It was pretty moisturizing compared to most store bought shampoos,  but I've tried better. The smell was a bit strong, like I was removing a relaxer for a few seconds, then it died down.

The conditioner was an interesting consistency, more like lotion I'd say. I left that on for  5  minutes after rinsing out the first application of conditioner which I kept in for about 1 minute. I covered my hair with a shower cap, rinsed, then proceeded with my ACV.  After rinsing out the condition my hair was moisturized but I was not impressed. It was OK.... JUST OK. After using ACV  my hair is usually transformed into  somtething even more moisturized. This was not the case.

I went out to Kohl's with the family for a while  to catch a few sales and now I am home about to get back into the shower. .... My hair is limp, somewhat dry and in desperate need of a deep conditioner.

This Aveeno combination is dead on for my son's hair but for my 3c/4a texlaxed fine hair- I DONT THINK SO! I should give it another try, letting the conditioner sit longer and doing a prepoo and stuff, but do I need to? I mean really, if this stuff was THAT  amazing I would have been WOWED  long before attemping these extra magic tricks trying to make it work.

If it weren't for it being so gentle on my infant, I would probably not buy this again because I like to use things the entire family can use. The Leave in is far better and an instant grab when I need to refresh my hair.

I must admit that I have been eying the Say Yes line. The Say Yes to Tomatoes was  on sale for about $7.19, originally $8.99 @ Walgreens, but the Say Yes to Carrots is what I've been itching to try. Choices, choices...what's a gal to do??

♥•:*¨¨*:• Happy 3 Year Anniversary •:*¨¨*:•♥

I am  so excited! Today marks the EXACT  anniversary of my Healthy Hair Journey, and I add emphasis to Healthy! It's been several years since I have finally mastered how to:

❧ take care of my hair
❧ not be a slave to a relaxer
❧ find products that works for MY hair
❧ not to be a slave to a beautician
❧ understand my type of hair
❧ understand the science of my hair
❧ listen to my hair's needs

Whooo hoooh! For the entire stretch of my hair journey I have had many set backs, such as styling incorrectly, too much manipulation, bad cuts, too much heat, incorrect products and so  forth that led to me cutting and trimming my hair. This past year especially  I maintained healthy hair , cutting my ends until my hair was shoulder length.

If it weren't for the cuts, I should  be at least bra strap length or longer. But again, Healthy hair has been my main focus while length will follow.

This year is definitely the year of growth. At a little past shoulder length I will do one more trim this week and only as needed for the rest of the year. My goal for this year is to be ARM pit length my by next anniversary. Wouldn't it be awesome if I made it to bra strap length?

I have not had the chance to take too many pics of the actual length of my hair just over the past year, but I hope to get back to documenting my length.

My goals for my hair for this year are:

❧ maintaining healthy ends
❧ keeping my hair moisturized and tied up from my sons who ♥ to pull on it!
❧ keeping it wrapped up
❧ baggying more often

* I'll add more as I think of them

At the moment I am currently texlaxed with about a year's worth of new growth. Will I texlax soon? Well, I don't want to, but who knows! I'll keep you posted on my thoughts :-)

Coconut Oil: The ♥/Hate Relationship

Tonight I decicded to moisturize and seal my hair with Neutrogena Slik Touch Leave in Conditioner. Although I used it alone tonight, this cream  really makes my hair soft and I bought it to use in my kimmaytube leave in. I sealed with a coconut-grapeseed-olive-almond oil combination. Being that coconut oil was the MAIN oil in the sealing agent, I was really hessistant to use it based on my past experiences with  "crunchy" results.

Initially, I accidentally reached for my cocoveda oil! After realizing this I just used what ever I had poured out ( only enough for 3-4 small sections) and proceeded to seal with the other oil mix mentioned above. While all of my hair was OK, the only parts that I was actually satisfied with were the ones with the cocoveda oil.

Although my hair was soft, I did NOT like the way my hair felt. Coconut oil in my hair, even in small amounts, is a definite NO NO!

Oddly enough, I love it as a pre-shampoo/pre-conditioning treatment; It makes my hair strong and leaves my hair moisturized after shampooing. I can also use it in my deep conditioners with out a problem.

What I find even more interesting is that my two most FAVORITE  oils in the entire UNIVERSE are coconut oil based....HOW  IS THAT??? Both my cocoveda oil and my monoi oil are coconut oil based and leave my hair softer and more silky than anything else. This really blows my mind!!!!  I love pure coconut oil in my hair as long as its going to be rinsed out, but my hair hates it as a leave in!?!

•ღƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒღ• Henna Me Silk 1~21~2012 •ღƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒღ•

Today I did a Nupur Henna treatment. I have decided to document on my blog every time I do a henna treatment to minize the places I have written things. This will also allow you to understand when and why I henna when I do.

Most of what I do with my hair is done PRN ( as  needed). There is very little of a routine that I  actually follow.  This henna was done because the ends of my hair are looking a bit frazzled.. I'm not sure why they are like this but it's also been a while since I've done a protein treatment. My hair does not like heavy protein, so I usually use phytoproteins or silk proteins which are less harsh. I also turn to henna which  binds to the protein in my hair , making the hair stronger and the ends 'look' better.

By no means am I trying to cover up split ends. the only  way to get rid of them is to cut them. Henna does make them look better. My ends may not be split per say, but they are uneven. This year I wanted tot do more henna and less cutting of my hair. The past 3 years I have cut cut cut to get rid of unhealthy hair.

Now back to my Henna treatment- I finally measured it!

Henna Recipe:
 1/3 cup nupuru henna
1/8 cup kalpi tone ( add this after dye release, I was absent minded and added it before, silly me
1.5 cups of coconut milk that was frozen from the last henna I did- just thawed it out

after the dye release:
2 tbs coconut oil
1 tbs honey
~3tbs hairveda's 24/7 moist ( that I'm trying to get rid of)

*after the henna has sat for 4 hours, all of the coconut oil has been soaked up. to restore that pudding-like creamy consistency just add more warm coconut oil, or in my case I added the conditioner.

This treatment turned out awesome! My hair was so soft, moisturized and thick that I could not wait to style it the next day.
